Meet Kevin Cooney

Hello reader!  Allow me to introduce myself.  I am the newest addition to the line up of bloggers here on jibtv.com.  I am American in origin, specifically New York, and a resident of Tokyo now, for these last 8 years.  My work in Tokyo is varied and exciting. This is one of the reasons, what I thought would be a brief 1 year stint in Japan, has now evolved into what, some here in Tokyo term... "a lifer."

I have the privilege of appearing on a program on NHK World/jibtv called Tokyo Eye, and have covered a range of topics for the show.  My favorite episodes had me working overnight as a fishmonger in Tsukiji Market, gourmet feasts as I reviewed the buffet world of Tokyo and even dancing in a glittering sequined yukata.

Aside from onscreen performances, I also perform on stage.  I am a regular, working stand-up comedian at The Tokyo Comedy store, and travel the country performing my Japan themed comedy act.

The majority of my work though, is writing.  Currently, I am penning a children's television show for NHK and a comedy/drama that first aired on NHK.  It has made me a true rarity, a foreign TV writer.

I'm looking forward to sharing my life, world, and little things I love about this great city with you!  Please stay tuned to my posts here on jibtv.com.

Hi Kevin. Do you perform your stand up set in English? How does it go over the Japanese audience? I'm a Philippine based standup comedian (originally from San Francisco) and have been to Japan a few times. I'm interested in the standup comedy scene in Tokyo.
