This program
introduces the traditional Ainu culture and features on people in Shiraoi town,
Hokkaido, working to integrate the Ainu culture into modern life.
Shiraoi town in Hokkaido, northernmost island
of Japan, is working on transmitting the traditional Ainu culture to both home
and abroad. One of their special local culture, Traditional Ainu dance, was
inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity in 2009.
In this program, we look into the meaning and
joy of inheriting and transmitting traditional local culture to wider
generation, through the activities of local people, who wishes to make the Ainu
wisdom and culture be known wider in the world.
