Japan TV Showcase: 6 part series program, reporting on the activities of Japanese who are working to offer a helping hand for the people around the world.

In the second installment of "WILLING HANDS", the theme is "skill", featuring on a Japanese couple working in Sri Lanka, Negombo to teach the way to prepare and make "Japanese style dried fish".

Even though they can catch plenty of fish at their adjacent sea, they need "dried fish" as a preservative food, because of lack of diffusion of refrigerator caused by poverty and shortage of power supply.

Mr. Murakami who used to work on a ship, draw on his experiences and knowledge and teach the know-how to the local people.

This program introduces the traditional Ainu culture and features on people in Shiraoi town, Hokkaido, working to integrate the Ainu culture into modern life.

Shiraoi town in Hokkaido, northernmost island of Japan, is working on transmitting the traditional Ainu culture to both home and abroad. One of their special local culture, Traditional Ainu dance, was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.

In this program, we look into the meaning and joy of inheriting and transmitting traditional local culture to wider generation, through the activities of local people, who wishes to make the Ainu wisdom and culture be known wider in the world.

Based on Charles Danziger's amazing "Harvey and Etsuko's Manga Guide to Japan," Drawn to Japan: A Manga Adventure is the story of an irascible American cartoon mouse named Harvey who is fed up with being unemployed and living with the other cartoon characters under the bed of his cartoonist, Charles. Harvey knows a better life is out there, and asks Charles to draw him in a "manga" - a wildly popular Japanese-style comic book. But Charles is an American cartoonist and doesn't draw manga. In desperation, Harvey decides to travel to the home of manga to find employment. He commands Charles to "draw me to Japan!"

Once he hits Tokyo, Harvey realizes he has a lot of competition ("Tokyo looks like one big manga!"). He survives a night in a capsule hotel, despite telling the surly concierge: "there is no way I'm going to sleep in a mousetrap full of capsules!"

Harvey decides to get down to business and asks Charles for help. Charles (who appears live from the U.S.) introduces him to a top manga artist, Mimei Sakamoto (who appears live from Tokyo). When Harvey meets Mimei's assistant, Etsuko, she is unimpressed ("Manga Conversion Rating...Difficult!"). But she decides that he is a sporting mouse, and agrees that Mimei will consider drawing Harvey in a best-selling manga - on one condition: Harvey must first pass a test about all things Japanese.

Thus begins Harvey's misadventures in Japan. He experiences (and is harshly graded on)...

CHOPSTICKS (Chopsticks are too long for a little mouse like me. What if humans had to eat with poles?);

BLOWFISH (A deadly liver and a fishy alibi);

NOODLES (You slurped!!); and

SAMURAI WARRIORS (I'm not stupid. I happen to know that Tom Cruise was the Last Samurai...Nothing is more deadly than a cartoon mouse with a black belt and bad attitude!)

Harvey is not a great student, and suffers through Mimei's constant threats of "You fail! Go home!" But Charles and the cartoon characters back home cheer him on. Harvey is on the borderline, and knows he has to ace the final exam to pass. He gets advice from a surprise celebrity (who also appears live).

Will Harvey pass Mimei's test and find the keys to manga fame and fortune in Japan? To find out, watch this zany combination of manga mahem and "east meets west" fun!

Presently, NHK World / jibtv 24 hour channel has achieved the distribution target of covering 111 million households and is continuing to develop and expand worldwide distribution.

Furthermore, when we include the service providers who broadcast NHK World /jibtv programs on a limited day/hour basis, the number reaches 134 million households in 66 countries as of August 2009.

NHK World has been broadcasting their programs on global satellite and regional satellite around the world since their launch in 1995. As a new NHK subsidiary company, Japan International Broadcasting Inc. was formed and is dedicated to strengthening the worldwide distribution of the relaunched NHK World TV / jibtv channel.

After covering Australia, India and the Middle East last year, we are constantly working to strengthen our distribution network, especially in Europe, Asia and the U.S. We are also in a fit state to close new deals with African countries in the second half of this year.
